THE JESUS EXPERIENCE
Family Devotionals from the Gospel of Luke
March 28, 2010
Luke 24:46-48
Central Truth: Jesus spoke of His crucifixion and resurrection, connecting repentance to the forgiveness of sins His sacrificial death brings.
Memory Verse: “You are witnesses of these things.” Luke 24:48
Discussion: Are you being a witness to the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ? Too often we find it easy to talk about church and even invite others to go to church but find it extremely difficult to interject the name of Jesus or His crucifixion and resurrection into the conversation. And, even if asked, we are hesitant to mention repentance. Why? Sometimes we are genuinely concerned about being unnecessarily offensive and want to be sure we are gentle in our persuasion. At other times, we may be a little intimated – perhaps a little ashamed to mention “The Name”.
Inviting others to church is not a bad thing. In fact, it is a very good thing. It may be the only way we will ever get some in a situation where they have an opportunity to hear the truth.
But somewhere, in some way, we must bring others face to face with the reality of Jesus Christ and we cannot always leave it up to the church leadership. It’s good to bring people to church but until we bring them to repentance and Jesus, we have missed the mark.
Prayer: Ask God to give you the courage and wisdom to be an effective witness to the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.
