Colossians 1.15-29

Revive – this series has looked at what revival is, why do we drift and how do we come back home, and how do we stay close to God.  Today we are looking at the final step in revival and the goal of revival – to have a fresh passion for Jesus; appreciating who He is, what He has done, and why it matters.

… repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord … Acts 3.19 (NASB)

I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.  Jeremiah 31.25

Colossians churches needed a fresh vision of Jesus. They were being diluted by philosophies and distracted by sin. They needed a fresh vision of Jesus! Paul gives them three things:

A fresh vision of who He is.  (Col 1.15-18)

            Ruler of all creation (v15)

            Source of all creation (v16)

Sustains all creation (v17)

            Supreme authority over all creation (v18)

A fresh understanding of what He has done.  (Col 1.19-23)

            Reconciliation through the cross brought us new life

A fresh commitment to follow Him. (Col 1.24-29)

            Follow Jesus in suffering.  (v24)

            Follow Jesus by serving.  (v25-26)

            Follow Jesus by sharing.  (v27-29)
